I DID IT!

You guys, I did it!

It only took me 2.5 hours, one glass of wine with dinner, and three beers, but I finished Morg 'n' Thorg! This bully's ready to hit the pitch.

Alright, I'm off to bed.

An Ogre Enters Play

This Saturday one of the cards participants in Blitzmania receive allows them to hire an ogre for their team. Well, seeing as Games Workshop hasn't released an ogre figure for Blood Bowl yet, I'm painting one!

1990s Morg 'n' Thorg

Also, seeing as I won't have time to paint him tomorrow, I'm going to paint the whole figure tonight! Ladies and gentlemen, start your timers!

Warzone Painting Challenge

I got into a paint challenge with a bunch of randoms on the Mutant Chronicles Subreddit (Reddit? Who am I?), and I pledged to paint the Capitol starter set by the end of May. I'll keep y'all appraised.

Hell I can do it! If I never paint another goddamn thing this
whole damn month, that is!

Why do I do these things? At least it'll contribute to the 1000pt Warzone army I pledged to do in 2016.

Painting Challenge pt.3: the Slowdownening

Slowin' down! No matter how much I try and ignore my social, and creative obligations I found that yesterday and today I had a hard time sittin' down to paint. I did get a 2999pt. game of Warhammer in today (more on that next post), so that might've contributed to the lack of work.

I did the base coat and the shading for the skin, though. Tomorrow I'm gonna do the highlighting, and then work on the bones jutting out of the models and that should be it for the wolves. Here's hoping I can get that done by tomorrow night.
The first five
The second five

P.S. I was going to post pictures of the contender's progress, but Blogger's being a real bitch right now and keeps tossing all pictures I upload to the top of the post. It also keeps centering all of my text, so I'm just going to let it chill out.

Painting Challenge pt. 2: The Basening

So during SNL (reeee-ruuuuunnn!) and Almost Live (What? No 206 tonight?) I managed to get the basing done for my figures.

Chaos Warriors
Chaos Warhounds
Knights and Marauders
I think I've settled on a color scheme, and I will be implementing that in the coming weeks. I actually think I'm going to start with my Hounds and then do the marauders. I think I can get those done the quickest (they're also the least interesting).

I'll throw an army list up on this site on Monday-ish, and I have my first game with the new army book on Wednesday. Following that will be my thoughts, and a slim battle report.

Painting Challenge pt.1: The Introducening

Papa Nurgle has blessed me today, folks. I'm not super-sick, but I'm just sick enough to be a little out of it. This couldn't come at a better time, because I have quite a few project to catch up on, and there was a show that I was supposed to go to tonight, that I now have to think twice about. Oh! Could you not hear the sarcasm there? We, as a digital society should really think about using a font for sarcasm. I'm sure this will alleviate much of the destructive discourse on the Internet these days.

Here are the pictures of my force for the 50-model paint challenge that I'm partaking in:
The Whole Shebang

The Warriors

The Knights and the Marauders

The Wolves
Alright, so that's all I have the energy for right now. You'll see these models progress throughout the month of February (starting this Sunday). Before I go, here's one of the other 50 models that are being painted up:

And So It Begins

The dread legions of Chaos emerge from the cloying mists and begin their inexorable march down through Kislev and into the heart of the Empire.

Knowing what you know about the speed and frequency at which I paint, you (my faithful audience) are well within your rights to speculate upon which specific madness has gripped me. Is it the dreaded mind funk; A condition that inflates one's ego to mammoth proportions? Or is it the horrid Pfeilmann's headclamp, which renders the sufferer immune to reality?

Either way I'm attempting to paint 59 models by March 10th (and, in a couple cases, I use the term model somewhat lightly considering that two of those "models" are a Daemon Prince and a Chaos Warshrine).

The reason for this insanity is twofold:

1) I have a 2999pt. Warhammer tournament I've signed up for on March 10th; for that I need to paint 5 Chaos Knights, 32 Chaos Warriors, 10 Marauders, 10 Chaos Warhounds, a Chaos Warshrine, and a Daemon Prince (the old Greater Daemon of Slaanesh, now used as his/her lesser form).

2) A couple of friends and I are undertaking a painting challenge that entails each of us to paint 50 models faster than the other throughout the month of February. I was originally going to put my 56 High Elf Lothern Seaguard up for this challenge, but in a moment of lucidity (must be Pfeilmann's headclamp after all. No lucid moments occur to an unfortunate soul in the grips of a mind funk), I decided that it might be tantamount to hubris to attempt to paint 115 models by March 10th.

So this post is the momentous one that not only begins my Warhammer tournament journal, but also begins the preparatory stages for the paint contest (the contest will have me painting the Chaos Warriors, the Marauders, and the Warhounds. Everything else will have to be finished either before and/or after the contest). Keep your diseased eyes glued to this website for more information in the coming weeks regarding some army building articles, some battle reports from test games, and blurry cellphone pictures of my mound of plastic and pewter.

May the titillating caress of Slaanesh keep you in rapturous ecstasy.

+++END TRANSMISSION+++

P.S. It appears this madness has gripped me just in time (oh, Slaanesh, you devious dog, you!) as the new Warriors of Chaos are beginning to leak through the cracked tubes of the Internet.

And the result is:

Cross-Post from TTGN Talk.

*sigh*

It is with a heavy heart, and claw-like painting hand, that I admit defeat in this challenge. The answer as to why is simple: I got cocky. I leapt out the gate and got the infantry finished, then sat on my laurels for awhile and worked on some Junkers for Urban War. The completion of these Junkers caused me to sit harder on my laurels, until a mad rush to get the vehicles finished, which yielded no completion on that front.

I'm still going to finish these guys (and post the results here), but as for this contest: I'm out.

+++END TRANSMISSION+++

P.S. I'll post pictures soon. My models are just in two different places based on their completeness.

TTGN's Old Project Challenge Update

So, all the way back in November I decided I'd join this over at the Tabletop Gaming News forums. It sounded easy enough: Finish a project you had laying around, and take three months doing it, starting in December and finishing at the end of February. Easy enough for someone who isn't a lazy git.

Well, lazy's probably not the best adjective for this git; I did start rather quickly out the gate. The only problem with starting quickly out the gate is that you must have dillagence to keep on track. Perhaps I'm just a dilligenceless git.

I began with this:

And now, I just have the Infantry painted, the vehicles base coated, and the titan untouched.

And that's where I got stuck. See, I finished my infantry very quickly and even managed to get into some of the rhinos before I decided to take a break. After all, I still had about two months and was on a painting spree; I could afford some R&R.

That's where the Urban War Junkers came in; and the test figure for my VOR: the Maelstrom Union army; and the test figure for my Warhammer 40,000 Dark Eldar; and the test figure for my Warmachine Retribution army, etc. At least I got a painted Urban War force out of the delay.

Now it's Friday and I have four days left in the challenge. Normally this would be no problem, as I'd be able to hermit myself in my house and paint until my hand formed a permanent claw from the strain, but my girlfriend is in town.

Now I know what you're saying, and you're wrong. She's very supportive of my hobby, and I always roll my eyes at the endless list of domestic excuses people roll out when it comes to their lack of effort on their hobby. Some of them are understandable, but wives/husbands/boyfriends/girlfriends should let you have some time to yourself for your personal growth, and children sleep; so there should be plenty of time to get some work done (besides, kids make great base-coaters!).

The problem lies in that I'll want to spend most of my time with her when I'm not at work, and she comes all the way over from Victoria to see me (a 6-hour trek by public transit) for a weekend. I think that's a worthy excuse to not get some painting done. We'll see, though. She's a TA at her university and needs to get some marking/homework done, so I may be able to sit across the room at my painting table and still be company for her.

I'll fill you in on Monday regarding my progress and we'll know for sure by Wednesday's post whether I've succeeded in this challenge or not. Regardless of the outcome I've done a heck of a lot of work on this army and even managed to squeeze another project in there. I'll continue to work on the army after the challenge is done, and hopefully take no longer than another week on it. After that, I think I'm going to work on my Craftworld Eldar for Warhammer 40,000 or possibly my Warmachine Retribution of Scyrah.

In the future I'll also have some big project logs regarding the process of building armies from scratch. I think the candidates will be Dark Eldar for Warhammer 40,000; Orcs & Goblins for Warhammer; and my American Infantry Company for Flames of War. Though, of course, these won't be all at once, or even one after the other. These are just the ones I have planned. The project logs will chronicle my army creating process from start to finish, and even showcase some games goin' on. So far on this blog I think I've only tackled projects that I've had laying around.

Have a good weekend!

Urban War Army Builder Part 2

Now here's something interesting. Instead of posting erratically with up to a month in between posts, I post out of my new schedule a full day after a regularly-scheduled post! I amaze myself.

Yes, it's true. The first finished army of 2011! My Urban War Junkers. Bask in their red glory.

So there you have it! The first three pictures are of my 160pt Urban War force, and the last picture is of the whole squad (plus a Flame Thrower guy who goes in another squad and an extra guy) which will form the basis of my Metropolis force. I'm very excited, and I hope I get a game in either this week or next. For my 300pt force I'm adding two Sandrunners, an Exo-Suit, and a Lictor.

You'll also notice that there's some Epic Blood Angels' Rhinos in the background. They are but one color away from being finished, and then no marine shall have to hoof-it! I'm well on track with my Epic painting, but I can't relent. I need to get them done by the end of the month. Not only for the contest I'm in, but in order to keep to my (already jam-packed schedule).

Hordes Painting Challenge Day 31

FINISHED!

So it took me 31 days to do a 35 point army, but I came in 2nd, AND i did the whole army in only 7 sittings! That means, if I did paint every day, I would've finished this army in one week: the same amount of time that the 1st place winner finished his stuff in. Would'a, should'a, could'a...

Anyways, I'm supremely pleased that I did an army that I'm proud of so quickly, and this opens new avenues of speed painting for me. Tomorrow I'll get a picture of the whole force together. I'm also going to have my 1st game around the 7th of July when the Hordes card packs come out. I'll post a battle report of that.

When I post pictures of the whole force tomorrow I'll also (finally!) write an army list and show what was in this army. Until then, enjoi!

The last bit of the army, finished!

Hordes Painting Challenge Day 11

In order to counteract the intensely frustrating day I had at school (waa!) I came straight home to my sanctuary, made some coffee, put on the D&D Podcast, and sat down to paint. I got into the zone, and painting definitely calmed me down.

Anyway, I finished my warlock (Lylyth), and got some skin and black highlighting done on my Striders. I have but 9 models left to do, and they only have the brown (and some silver) left to do. My Strider Deathstalker hasn't a lick of paint, beyond primer, on her, and this is just because in my random paint line-up she kept getting put at the end. I've decided I'll paint her all alone after the other 8 are done.

Here's Lylyth:

And here's a shot of my painting area (chaotic, no?):

I've also become very excited about Dark Sun (it being one of my favorite campaign settings), and this thought of a "favorite something" has me filling out lists. After this paint challenge is done, I'm going to make three batches of posts for "Top 10 Tabletop Miniature Games," "Top 5 Roleplaying Games," and "Top 10 Campaign Settings." Stay tuned!

Hordes Painting Challenge Day 7

Yes, I know the timestamp on this post would suggest that this would be the 9th day of the painting challenge and not the 7th, but these photos are from the 7th of June. I tried desperately to get some painting in yesterday but no dice. Today I'm hoping to hit my models with a few brushstrokes, but there's only a week and a half of school left and I need to get working on my final projects.

Anyway, here's the pictures:

There ye have it! They're both done! I'm gonna work on the two Shredders, and Lylyth today.

Here's a picture of everything I have left:

P.S. Alas the paint contest has a victor, and it is not me. Darren (Skorne player) has come in first place on June 7th, but Jay (Cryx), and I are going to finish for the illustrious title of 2nd place. I'll post all the pics from their stuff at the end, and these updates from me will continue, as well as a report on what Jay and I have to paint for Darren...

Hordes Painting Challenge Day 3

So, I didn't get any painting done on Wendesday, but today, watch out Cindy! Did I get some brushstrokes in or what?

Carnivean One coming along. Only its mouth and tongue left to do
From Hordes Painting Challenge

Carnivean Two not quite finished, but I felt like basing it anyway. Unfortunately in my zeal, I got some snow flock into the wet ink. That's gonna be crappy later.

And the finished Shepherds

Now the crummy part is that I wont get any painting done this weekend as I'll be in Summerland, BC: the town where my girlfriend's from, as we bask in all of its quaint glory. I'll be back with a vengeance on Monday, however; hopefully with two finished Carniveans, and some Shredder work.

Did I mention I'm doing a drow-themed force? Except I don't have any cool spider conversions due to lack of time, and idea how I would go about that. I've also primed the figures with P3 black primer, and am using 95% P3 paints (the only non P3 paints are the washes from Citadel, Hormagaunt Purple from Citadel, and Warlock Purple from Citadel). Tomorrow I'm hoping to finish the Carniveans, the Shepherds, and start into the Forsaken and Lylyth. Oh Nelly I've a long way to go yet.
